CAHED members can utilize chat rooms to participate in impromptu chat discussions, schedule speakers, participate in educational discussions, etc. You do not need to reserve a chat, you can use the chat rooms at your convenience. Basic instructions follow below. If you experience difficulty, please contact technical support for assistance.

Enter an existing Chat Room and talk to other members live

  • Click next to the room that you want to enter.
  • Type your first and last names in the "User Name" space.
  • Type in the password that has been assigned to the room if you are going to enter a private chat room.
  • Click on the "Enter A Live Chat Room" button.

Once you are in the room, your name will appear on the left side of the screen, with the names of anyone else in the room at that time. To "chat" type your comment in the box at the bottom of the screen, then click on the "Submit" button.

The Chat Room is not compatible with older versions of the AOL Web Browser. Users with AOL 3.0 or greater with the 32 bit Browser for Windows 95 will be able to participate in live chat discussions.

Create a new Chat Room

  • In the bottom section of the Chat Room home page, type words or a short phrase in the topic box that identifies the subject about which you want to chat with other members.
  • Type in your first name and last name in the "User Name" box.
  • A password is required to create both public and private chat rooms.
  • Click the "Add a New Chat Room" button.
  • If you've created a private chat room, be sure to enter the exact password that you've previously circulated to the other members that you've prearranged to meet in your private room. The security is case sensitive so be careful where you use capital and lower case letters.

Delete a Chat Room

  • Verify that the Chat Room that you created and now want to delete is empty. You can verify this by checking the "Current Users" status which will indicate "zero".
  • Enter exactly the same name and password that you used to create the public or private chat room.
  • Click on the "Delete A Live Chat Room" button.
